Hazards & Toxic Symptoms
Dibromoethane/1,1-dibromoethane is an alkane combustible gas or liquid (saturated hydrocarbon chain), which is colorless and flammable. When mixed with air, it forms an explosive mixture. It has low inherent toxicity, and the main risks are: ① fire explosion (lower explosion limit typically 1-10%); ② simple asphyxia caused by high concentrations displacing oxygen in enclosed spaces; ③ long-term exposure to high concentrations may cause mild anesthesia and dizziness. Alkanes heavier than air tend to accumulate on the ground/in low-lying areas. Storage sites must be equipped with LEL monitoring and mandatory ventilation.
