Dimethyl ether belongs to the ether category (C-O-C structure), and most of it is highly flammable liquid or gas. Its vapor has a strong anesthetic effect. It has a low lower explosion limit and can be ignited by electrostatic sparks. Long-term storage may produce peroxides (which can explode when shaken or heated). It must be stored away from light and heat, and regular testing for peroxides must be conducted. Commonly used PID monitoring is employed.
