Hazards & Toxic Symptoms
1-Iodopropane is a combustible gas or liquid belonging to the alkane category (saturated hydrocarbon chain), which is colorless and flammable. When mixed with air, it forms an explosive mixture. It has low toxicity per se, and the main risks are: ① fire and explosion (the lower explosion limit is usually 1-10%); ② high concentrations in enclosed spaces displace oxygen, leading to simple asphyxiation; ③ long-term exposure to high concentrations may cause mild anesthesia and dizziness. Alkanes heavier than air tend to accumulate on the ground/in low-lying areas. Storage sites must be equipped with LEL monitoring and mandatory ventilation.
