Hazards & Toxic Symptoms
Butyne/1-butyne is an alkynes (containing a C≡C triple bond) and an extremely flammable gas. It has a very wide explosion range (such as acetylene, 2.5-81%) and requires low ignition energy. An increase in pressure (>0.15 MPa) may lead to instability or even self-detonation. It has a strong anesthetic effect. It must be stored in acetylene cylinders (containing acetone-impregnated porous packing) and must not come into direct contact with copper (as it can form explosive copper acetylide).
