Hazards & Toxic Symptoms
Butynes are highly flammable gases belonging to the alkynes category (containing a C≡C triple bond). They have a very wide explosion range (such as acetylene, 2.5-81%) and require low ignition energy. Elevated pressure (>0.15 MPa) may lead to instability or even self-detonation. They have a strong anesthetic effect. Storage must be done in acetylene cylinders (containing acetone-impregnated porous packing), and direct contact with copper is prohibited (as it can generate explosive copper acetylide).
