Butene/1-butene is a combustible gas belonging to the olefin category (containing C=C double bonds), which is colorless and flammable. In addition to the risks of fire and explosion, olefins generally have anesthetic effects, causing dizziness and drowsiness upon inhalation. Some olefins (such as acrylonitrile and vinyl chloride) pose a carcinogenic risk. Olefins heavier than air accumulate in low-lying areas. Chemical production sites should simultaneously monitor the concentrations of LEL and VOCs.
