Sec-butyl bromide is a brominated organic compound, typically more toxic than its corresponding chlorinated counterparts. Its vapor irritates the respiratory tract, and some varieties (such as bromomethane) are highly toxic and can be absorbed through the skin. It is commonly used in fumigation for pest control, as a flame retardant, and in chemical synthesis. The Montreal Protocol has restricted the use of bromomethane. It is commonly monitored using PID or dedicated sensors.
