Hazards & Toxic Symptoms
Nonane is an alkane combustible gas or liquid (saturated hydrocarbon chain), which is colorless and flammable. When mixed with air, it forms an explosive mixture. It has low toxicity and poses the following main risks: ① fire and explosion (the lower explosive limit is usually 1-10%); ② simple asphyxiation caused by high-concentration displacement of oxygen in enclosed spaces; ③ long-term exposure to high concentrations may cause mild anesthesia and dizziness. Alkanes heavier than air tend to accumulate on the ground/in low-lying areas. Storage sites must be equipped with LEL monitoring and mandatory ventilation.
