Methane is a colorless, odorless, flammable gas (the main component of natural gas, which emits a garlic-like odor after odorization). With an explosion lower limit of 5%, it is highly explosive when mixed with air. In enclosed spaces, it displaces oxygen, leading to asphyxiation. It is also a greenhouse gas (GWP=28).

Catalytic combustion (preferably LEL detection) / Infrared (for high-concentration scenarios, still works without oxygen) / Laser remote sensing (for pipeline network inspection)
