Methylhydrazine is a hydrazine (hydrazine) compound, a colorless, ammonia-smelling, flammable liquid, and is highly toxic. It is a strong reducing agent that reacts violently or spontaneously combusts when exposed to oxidizers. It is neurotoxic, can be absorbed through the skin, causing liver and kidney damage, anemia, and carcinogenesis (confirmed by animal experiments). It is used as a propellant in aerospace, a deoxygenating agent for boiler feedwater, and an intermediate in chemical synthesis. Special electrochemical/chemiluminescent sensors are required for storage sites.
