Hazards & Toxic Symptoms
Chlorine is a yellow-green gas with a pungent odor and is highly toxic. It is heavier than air. Low concentrations irritate the upper respiratory tract, while high concentrations can cause fatal pulmonary edema. It can be detected at a concentration of 0.1 ppm. Chlorine was used as a chemical weapon during World War I.
