Fluoride ions can bind with tissue calcium, causing deep necrosis; its vapor irritates the respiratory tract, leading to delayed pulmonary edema (with a latency period of 4-48 hours). It is commonly used in semiconductor etching, fluorine chemical synthesis, and as a raw material for polymers. It must be stored in dedicated fluorine-resistant materials, equipped with specialized fluorine sensors and eye wash stations/showers.
