Sulfur hexafluoride is a colorless, odorless, and non-toxic gas, but it is five times heavier than air, posing a high risk of asphyxiation in enclosed spaces. It decomposes into toxic decomposition products (SOF₂/SO₂F₂) when subjected to electric arc decomposition. It is one of the strongest greenhouse gases.
