Diethylamine belongs to the amine class (-NH₂/-NH- structure), most of which have a strong ammonia odor and are strongly alkaline. Its vapor is strongly irritating to the eyes, respiratory mucosa, and skin, causing chemical burns at higher concentrations. Some aromatic amines (such as anilines) can be absorbed through the skin, leading to poisoning, and long-term exposure poses a carcinogenic risk. Commonly monitored using PID or electrochemical sensors.
