Particles in the airflow carry a certain charge, and as they pass through the probe, electrostatic induction induces a charge on the probe, which is then converted into a weak current signal. The magnitude of the current signal is directly proportional to the concentration of particulate matter. By extracting the current signal, particulate matter concentration can be accurately measured
